Frequently asked questions.
What is therapy like?
The first session is a way for us to get to know each other and determine whether we will be a good fit. I will ask about your history, symptoms, goals, strengths, and any other relevant information. In the first session we will also determine an initial treatment plan based on what we have discussed. This will include goals, how often we will meet, and potential number of sessions. For those using insurance we will review possible diagnosis.
The following sessions will focus on the goals we have developed, and anything else that comes up. It is important to know that you may not feel better right away. There are sometimes ups and downs throughout the course of treatment. We will re-evaluate treatment goals and determine if what we are doing is beneficial. The number of sessions will vary for each person. My goal is for you to feel safe and comfortable with me.
Will things be private and confidential?
The law protects the relationship between a client and a psychotherapist, and information cannot be disclosed without written permission. When we do online therapy you can be assured I will be in a private space. If we are doing Walk and Talk therapy bits of our conversation may be heard by passerby’s, and I will have a separate consent form for these sessions.
Exceptions to confidentiality include:
Suspected child abuse or dependent adult or elder abuse, for which I am required by law to report this to the appropriate authorities immediately.
If a client is threatening serious bodily harm to another person/s, I must notify the police and inform the intended victim.
If a client intends to harm themself, I will make every effort to enlist their cooperation in ensuring their safety. If they do not cooperate, I will take further measures without their permission that are provided to me by law in order to ensure their safety.
For anyone using insurance, I am required to submit information about length and frequency of sessions as well as a diagnosis code.
Do you take insurance?
Short answer, yes.
I have contracted with two companies in order to take commercial insurance plans. The companies are called Alma and Headway. I would complete all my billing through one of these companies (depending on your insurance), and you would keep your credit card on file through their website. I am currently accepting all Optum, United Healthcare, Oxford, and Oscar plans, as well as Aetna.
I also accept Traditional Medicare (not Medicare Advantage plans) through your Medicare Part B coverage.
For those using Out-of-Network benefits:
I am able to provide a document called a Superbill that you can submit if you have out of network benefits.
Some questions to ask insurance for out-of-network include:
What is my co-insurance or copay for out-of-network sessions?
What is my out-of-network deductible and has it been met?
What is my out-of-pocket max and has it been met?
How many sessions does my plan cover per year?
What is the out-of-network allowed amount per individual therapy session (CPT codes 90791, 90834, and 90837)?
Do I need a referral from an in-network provider to see an out-of-network provider?
What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
If you do not show up for your scheduled therapy appointment, and you have not notified me at least 48 hours in advance, you will be required to pay the $50 late cancellation/ no show fee. This is not covered by insurance. If you are able to reschedule in the same week, this fee may be waived.
